A Good Man
February 23rd
A Good Man is the story of Chris Rohrlach, a farmer from Inverell in rural New South Wales who also happens to be the full-time carer for his quadriplegic wife, Rachel. When times got tough on the farm, Chris decided to change industries and opened a brothel.
You read that right. Sounds like doco gold.
The film premieres at the 2009 Adelaide Film Festival on February 21. Chris Rohrlach will be in attendance for a post-screening Q & A.
I admire Chris yet I still miss my school friend Rachael – she had a fierce temper and was desperately in love with Chris – I expect she still is and is still making her feelings and temper known
Thanks for the comment. Chris and Rachel’s is indeed a touching story.
This looks incredible, will it show in Perth? I would love to see this.

Sorry I’m not sure of where else it’s screening – I too haven’t been able to see it yet.

I just seen the film and it is brilliant. Being friends of Chris and Rachel it is so fantastic to see such a film. Rachel is a fun loving girl, with a big heart and such a loving personality, while Chris is a man who deserves to win Father/Man of the year. They are two very very special people who deserve eachother. The film is great and I would recommend it to anyone.
I went to see this tonight at Canberra Film Festival and couldn’t get a ticket. Sold out very early apparently and it will not have a repeat screening.
Will it be available on video? Does anyone know how I can get to see it.
It sounds truly inspirational.
@Sharon
Bummer, I’m sure there will be more screenings and it will more than likely be on SBS/ABC at some stage
Hi, I missed the 1 hour special on ABC last week. Just wondering if this has been released on DVD or will be screened again in Perth sometime soon.
Chris has an amazing high level of love and goodness. He does not see the disability, he only sees the woman he loves. I was profoundly moved.
I saw A Good Man on Thursday night, ABC Brisbane. The most amazing, inspiring and heart-warming story. I couldn’t turn away. Chris, you are the man Australia wants as ‘Father/Husband of the Year’. Even though one might call you a ‘rough diamond’ I just thought you were wonderful.
Regards
Jill and Neil Kent.
Thanks for all the comments, I’ve sent a link to this post to the documentary’s director.
Rachel and I were best mates in high school. We used to have lunch at each others house once a week. She is a great friend. Chris and Rachel fell in love one nite at my house after the new years eve ball at Bundarra. Everyone could see that nite how much they loved each other and it is great to see that the love is still there today. Chris is a fantastic person who has a heart of gold, Rachel is still the beautiful person she always has been. But I unfortunately have never had the chance to see this film, is there anyway of being able to re-watch the abc screening of it could someone please let me know.
I watched this documentary last night and I was so moved by the love that Chris has for Rachel and the strength Rachel has. I was also very touched by his son and how he has managed as well as how both parents have helped them through their journey. It was very heartening.
I had a friend who was disabled for quite awhile due to a brain tumour and Rachel reminded me of her, they both have such amazing eyes. Sadly my friend lost her battle but she fought hard until the end.
Thank goodness there are still some amazing people we can look up to in this world.
Best regards to all Chris and Rachel and their families.
Elizabeth
GREETINGS FROM TORONTO,
And our children admire guys who can hit a HOCKEY PUCK with a STICK or throw a BASKETBALL through a HOOP as their HEROES. CHRIS ROHRLACH is a HERO … plain and simple. THAT’s a MAN … THAT’s a FATHER …. THAT’s a HUSBAND!!

From Montreal. There is a lot of pain but there is a lot of hope in this documentary as well. I wish the best for the family.
The television premiere for this film is June 19th at 8pm (ET)! It will be screened on Documentary Channel, DISH 197 and DIRECTV 267. What an amazing documentary! Everyone should know about this!
I watched the film last night and I, like the others couldn’t turn away. The story could only be true because no one could have made one such as this up. I was inspired by the entire family, but my heart really went out to the oldest son… at the point where he was speaking of his mother and started crying… it was overwhelming.. I would love to hear more about this family as time goes on… All the Best to all of them! Brunswick, Ga USA
